With Eye On Professional Development, CompTIA Relaunches IT Group

CompTIA this week revealed its revamp of the Association of Information Technology Professionals, a group it acquired earlier this year, which borrows from the infrastructure of the former group and the resources of its parent.

CompTIA, an information technology trade group best known for its industry certifications, has a new take on the IT sector. The goal? Comprehensive, long-term professional development.

The new Association of Information Technology Professionals (CompTIA AITP), which formally launched on Tuesday, is rolling out with the bones of the prior version of AITP that CompTIA acquired earlier this year. That means the revamped organization has an existing national base, along with chapters in 20 states.

The goal of CompTIA AITP is to help Americans forge a path into the technology field—no matter their educational or career background.

In a news release, CompTIA Executive Vice President of Industry Relations Nancy Hammervik noted that the group was hoping to build a tech-minded workforce with the endeavor, one that fills future gaps within the technology world.

“We know Americans are more worried now than maybe ever before about their jobs and future—especially if they don’t have a college degree. Yet, we can’t seem to find enough people to fill all the tech jobs we need,” she noted. “CompTIA AITP is good for tech workers, good for the tech industry, and good for the future of the economy.”

CompTIA AITP, which aims to be a “resume to retirement” group, plans to use a series of strategies to fulfill these goals, including through CompTIA’s TechTalent career portal, with in-person networking events and local chapters, by offering discounts on CompTIA’s certification programs, and by targeting hiring managers through its Job Pulse program.

“Think about what CompTIA AITP can mean for a 25-year-old who hasn’t settled on a career. It’s a path forward in a futuristic industry,” Hammervik added. “And it’s equally important to a 35-year-old who’s been in the tech industry for 10 years but wants to jumpstart his or her career.”

The move comes about eight months after CompTIA acquired AITP, an organization with 65 years of history.

“AITP, with its deep historical roots and established networks, will help us build a solid foundation for success for our new professional association,” CompTIA CEO Todd Thibodeaux said at the time of the acquisition.
