Rethink sponsorship. Sherry Budziak at .orgSource suggests you reconsider what sponsors can offer to members. She explains how you can adapt their Solution Center concept to provide value to your members and sponsors.

Bloom’s taxonomy. In another one of their “learning science made easy” posts, WBT Systems introduces the original, revised and rebuffed Bloom’s Taxonomy—a taxonomy used by instructional designers and instructors when developing educational programs. They explain why some learning experts say it causes more harm than good.

Marketing fundamentals. Tom Roach at Marketing Week says these seven fundamentals of marketing communication have stayed relevant because they’re based on how our brains work, not on how specific technology works. It’s a good list to compare against your marketing strategies and tactics.

Board foresight. Leverage the pandemic’s disruption by adopting foresight governance that will drive innovation. Kristine Metter, CAE, at Crystal Lake Partners explains the basics of foresight governance and how to help your board develop a culture of foresight.

Women in the workplace. José Triana at Sidecar shares disheartening facts (and stats) about women in the workplace, such as the “broken rung” keeping women out of managerial roles, burnout, DEI, and challenges for women of color.

Quick hits

  • A mental trick to make any task less intimidating: picture yourself on the other side. (Laura Vanderkam, Forge)
  • Malcolm Gladwell says three unusual words separate people who achieve from those who just daydream. (Jeff Haden, Inc.)

Good eats

Skip down to the list of free webinars if you prefer takeout.

  • Long ago, Mark Bittman had a Sunday Supper Paella recipe on his site, but it’s no longer there, so I’m glad I copied it. He shared another paella recipe that’s slightly different but can serve as a jumping off point. I made my version with Portuguese chouriço, boneless/skinless chicken thighs and shrimp. I used shrimp broth infused with saffron (not necessary—the broth was so heavily flavored, the saffron was lost in it, but dang, it was good), and added poblano pepper, paprika and bay leaf. I’m looking forward to the leftovers for lunch today.
  • On the side, a sauté of greens (kale, Asian collards, pac choi, kohlrabi/radish greens) with chouriço, mushrooms, orange bell pepper, jalapeño, red onion and dried cranberries.
  • Another night we had jalapeno pretzel-crusted catfish. I dredged the fillets in flour, then a buttermilk/hot sauce mixture and then the pretzels. So tasty and spicy! On the side, a kohlrabi sauté and leftover greens.

Here are the educational events scheduled for next week. If you have a free webinar or event coming up, please send me the link by Wednesday afternoon the week before it’s scheduled. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not too product-centric.
