The best nugget from that special came from VMA executive producer Dave Sirulnick who stated that after all of the rehearsals and careful planning, minutes before the show, he would literally rip up the script. One year, MTV hosted a behind-the-scenes look at the amount of time, effort and insanity that goes into developing such a production.

I also doesn’t hurt to have the executive director of your department take you to lunch from time to time. Being in management does have its perks. Being a manager allowed me to attend meetings and trainings I may not have received otherwise. Did my enjoy my time as manager? Was the experience painful at times? Absolutely.

A few are executive directors. DELP scholars represent different races, ethnicities, ages, physical abilities, sexual orientation, gender, and geographical areas. We serve on boards and committees. We’re mid and senior level professionals. Many have earned the CAE. In fact, in my class of 2008-2009, 7 of the 10 scholars are CAEs.
