Nonprofits struggling to meet demand

But 55 percent of organizations have three months or less cash-on-hand and 28 percent ended their fiscal year with a deficit. As another cost saving tool, organizations are relying more on volunteers. Take Meals on Wheels, for example.

Corporate America is often carted out as a better model for associations, particularly when it comes to generating revenue — it’s the tacit message delivered whenever somebody says, “Our association needs to run more like a business.”
