Membership Hack: $5 Trial Membership

For the cost of a Starbucks latte, the International Public Safety Association gave member prospects a limited $5 trial membership that included access to a lot of member benefits.

How to hack it? To celebrate its fifth anniversary, the International Public Safety Association offered an intriguing membership trial: It invited prospects to test-drive the member experience for two weeks for $5.

The trial membership gave prospects access to a range of benefits, including selected publications and webinars and free registration to IPSA’s fall meeting in Washington, DC.

Why did it work? The $5 trial membership offer gave would-be members a glimpse of IPSA’s benefits and professional community without a major commitment by either the association or the prospective member. The promotion was also an excellent way for the IPSA to celebrate a milestone moment.

What’s the bonus? IPSA incentivized trial members to join as associate, active, or lifetime members. Anyone who joined as a professional member during the first half of August was automatically entered into a raffle for a chance to win a free registration to the 2020 annual meeting in Tempe, Arizona.
