Organizations: American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Canadian Society of Agronomy

Conference: 2018 International Annual Meeting

Venue: Baltimore Convention Center

City: Baltimore

The 2018 International Annual Meeting begins on Sunday evening with an opening keynote by Dr. Jules Pretty, professor of environment and society and deputy vice chancellor at the University of Essex. His presentation on sustainable agriculture will be followed by a welcome reception in the exhibit hall. Also on the agenda:

Know your crops. During the Crops Judging Showcase, students from around the country will go head-to-head and test their agronomic knowledge. The contest consists of three parts—plant and seed identification, lab practical, and agronomic problem solving—and the winner will take home $350.

Center stage. Society Center, located in the middle of the exhibit hall, is a place for attendees not only to relax and network with colleagues but also to learn about the programs and services available to them as members. The bookstore and demos of the ACSESS digital library will be there as well.

Polling time. Tuesday’s midterm elections take place during the conference, and interested attendees can stop by a watch party at a local ale house to keep an eye on the results. Political junkies can also visit the Science Policy booth in the exhibit hall to make their election predictions and enter a drawing to win prizes.
