The Financial Planning Association’s Annual Conference is set to start this weekend in Boston.

More than 2,000 Certified Financial Planner professionals will come together in Boston to share practical knowledge and strategies that they can take back to their practices.

Saturday morning’s Opening General Session of the 2015 Annual Conference—“How and Why Great Teams Win”—will feature Jim Craig, the goalie for the 1980 gold-medal-winning USA Olympic hockey team. Craig will tell attendees how to develop a team-oriented environment that will allow them, their staff, and their businesses to successfully overcome the many challenges they face in the business world. Deep dive. During the Roundtable and FPA Exchange sessions, attendees will gather with their peers to learn how they will apply what they have learned to their businesses. The discussion group will feature a facilitator, panelists, and conference attendees. Note takers will record and share the takeaways, so attendees can fully participate in the session.

Industry trends. The AARP and FPA Social Security Research Panel Discussion will look at new, original research being conducted by both groups and how it will affect financial planners. Questions to be answered: What role does Social Security play in retirement planning? Are consumers taking advantage of important claiming strategies? How are planners helping their clients address Social Security in retirement?

Better businesses. Attendees can schedule complimentary one-on-one consulting sessions with eight business coaches in the Business Consulting Lounge for professional advice on how to enhance their practices. They’ll learn to improve current business functions related to social media, marketing, technology, business planning, websites, and human resources.
