Association Brain Food Weekly: 9.18.20

Free educational resources and events for the association community

The weekly list of free educational events and resources for the association community…

Association marketing. In a changing world and uncertain economy, if you want to hold on to a job—or find a new one—you need to acquire and demonstrate mastery of new skills. That’s why it’s a good time for your association to promote your certificate, microcredential and certification programs. WBT Systems explains how to market your association’s credentialing programs in a crappy economy.

Virtual conferences. Not going virtual is not an option for association conferences, says MemberSuite. If you’re tempted to not host a virtual conference in the coming year, consider the questions they pose before making a final decision.

Member engagement. At Associations Now, Lindsay Currie, CAE shares some low-cost ideas from for engaging and retaining members. I especially love the first one because members are craving that—heck, we all are.

Inclusive marketing. Marketers can do better, say Steve Pemberton and Ginny Engholm. At Managing Editor, they provide advice for creating culturally inclusive marketing because… “Empty words won’t fix racial injustice, and as content producers, we need to refuse to be accomplices who write pretty but meaningless words in times of crisis to help companies gloss over their realities of racial disparities at their companies.”

Quick hits before we get to the list of next week’s free education:

  • Virtual trade shows in the time of COVID-19: tax considerations for nonprofits. (George E. Constantine and Anne K. Gerson, Venable LLP)
  • Take immersive virtual tours of the world’s great museums, including the Louvre, Hermitage and Van Gogh Museum. (Open Culture)

Good eats—skip down to the list of free webinars if you prefer take-out. If you’re a home cook, check out the weekly In The Kitchen posts on my Grabbing the Gusto blog.

  • Another night I made Thai-inspired tuna burgers because I wanted leftover burgers for lunch. It may be sacrilege to use yellowfin tuna that way but I munched on a bunch of it while cutting it up for the burger mix—sashimi privileges for the cook. The pickled red onion and cucumber is a must, but instead of the ginger-lemon mayonnaise, I simply mixed sriracha into Duke’s mayo.
  • On the side, once again, sautéed eggplant with sweet bell and shishito peppers, red onion, garlic, basil and red wine vinegar. I know, I sound like a broken record, but it’s so good.

Here are the educational events scheduled for next week. If you have a free webinar or event coming up, please send me the link before Wednesday evening the week before it’s scheduled. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not too product-centric.

Until next week, “stay awkward, brave and kind.” (Brené Brown)
