MGM & Delos Partner for Productive Meetings & Relaxing Stays

Scientifically proven features and state-of-the art solutions to reimagine the wellness experience are at the core of this partnership.

Consumer interest in health and wellness isn’t just a marketing opportunity for the spa and yoga industry. It’s also an opportunity for hotels and conference venues to differentiate their services by providing customers a one-of-a-kind experience. As consumers increasingly expect wellness initiatives – whether traveling for work, attending a conference, or simply on vacation -innovation in this sector is something that cannot be ignored.

The Global Wellness Institute estimates that wellness is a $134 billion global market that will grow to $198 billion by 2022. There are two growing trends within that industry—wellness tourism, which is a $639 billion market, projected to reach $919 billion by 2022; and workplace wellness, a $48 billion market that is projected to grow to $66 billion by 2022.

MGM Resorts International has responded to consumer interest in both wellness tourism and workplace wellness by partnering with Delos to provide scientifically proven features in the meeting and sleeping rooms at Las Vegas three resorts—MGM Grand, Park MGM and The Mirage. This partnership allows MGM Resorts to provide its customers state-of the-art solutions to make their meetings more productive and their visits more relaxing.

“There are probably few companies that say, ‘I’ll only go to a resort with a Stay Well room or have Stay Well Meetings spaces,’ ” says Stephanie Glanzer, CMP, vice president sales operations & services for MGM Resorts International. “But is it a competitive advantage when organizations are searching for conference space.”

Stay Well guest rooms minimize the impact of travel on our bodies while Stay Well Meetings spaces increase productivity, creativity and collaboration, says Paul Scialla, founder and CEO of Delos. To design these rooms, Delos spent its first five years merging health research with building sciences research, and collaborating with doctors, designers, architects and engineers to determine the direct impact that buildings and their lighting and air can have on our bodies to create a curated environment that promotes wellness, Scialla says.

In 2012, MGM Resorts became the first and only company in Las Vegas to offer state-of-the-art wellness features in its guestrooms by partnering with Delos. Two years later, in 2014, MGM Resorts expanded that partnership to include its meeting rooms. Stay Well features include circadian lighting, air purification, aromatherapy, custom menus approved by the Cleveland Clinic and guided meditation narrated by Dr. Deepak Chopra.

“You just feel different when walking into a Stay Well room or meetings space ,” Glanzer says. The room smells better and the lighting feels more natural, she says.

Light can profoundly influence our well being, impacting our ability to perform visual tasks, affecting our comfort and alertness, as well as the quality of our sleep. MGM Resorts meeting and sleeping rooms use circadian lighting technology. Air quality can also have an affect on productivity. In addition to providing air purification to reduce allergens, toxins, smoke and microbes, MGM Resorts’ Stay Well meeting rooms also offer aromatherapy to enhance awareness and mental acuity. MGM Resorts uses a Clean Air Citrus scent, Scialla says.

MGM Resorts’ Stay Well guests also have access to a wellness app developed by Delos that allows guests to minimize jet lag, based on their personal flight details—what city they flew from and when they arrived. The Stay Well app is available only to guests who stay in or attend a meeting in a Stay Well room but its accessible to that guest for life, Scialla says. Stay Well guests are also given free lifetime access to a suite of three Cleveland Clinic apps focusing on sleep, stress and nutrition.
