Conference Circuit: Public Safety Communications

APCO International’s Annual Conference & Expo begins this weekend in Baltimore. Attendance is expected to exceed 5,000.

More than 5,000 public safety communications officials, including frontline telecommunicators and comm center managers, are headed to Baltimore to learn more about the industry’s newest technology, hear from speakers about trends and challenges, and get to know colleagues.

Organization: Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International

Conference: 2019 Annual Conference & Expo

Venue: Baltimore Convention Center

City: Baltimore, Maryland

Following professional development sessions and a new-attendee reception on Sunday, APCO 2019 starts early Monday morning with an opening general session and keynote address. Bret Baier, Fox News Channel’s chief political anchor, will discuss leadership and management lessons from President Dwight Eisenhower. Also on the agenda:

Brain power. Think Tank sessions are 30-minute discussions set in a relaxed environment where attendees can exchange ideas and experiences. The seven sessions will cover everything from the future of women in emergency communications to stress management and PTSD risk in telecommunicators.

Puppy patrol. APCO is making sure that the industry’s four-legged partners get some love too. Attendees can stop by the Dog Demo area to see some of the finest canine “officers” in the Baltimore City Police Department’s K9 Unit.

Career focus. For the fourth year, APCO is offering free resume reviews to attendees. Two career counselors from the Baltimore City Fire Department Human Resources Office will be available to provide individual feedback and tips on how to improve resumes.
