The 2019 APA Annual Meeting kicks off Saturday evening with an opening session featuring Valerie Jarrett. The senior advisor to President Barack Obama will speak on leadership and the responsibilities of a 21st-century citizen. Also on the agenda:

What’s next? The Mental Health Innovation Zone is APA’s showcase for the advancement of mental health technologies that are dedicated to answering the question, “What’s next?” It will feature curated educational activities focused on new ideas, technology, digital medicine, entrepreneurship, networking opportunities, and more.

Tune in. APA TV will produce a new daily episode during the meeting that features conference news, including session highlights and attendee reactions, as well as five-minute documentary-style films that showcase programs and initiatives that are making a difference. APA TV will be broadcast on screens around the venue, in selected delegate hotels, and online and through social media platforms.

Story time. APA is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year. To mark the milestone, story booths will be set up throughout the convention center. These booths will allow participants to self-record responses about their professional experiences, how APA has helped them, and what they think the future holds for psychiatry. Each participant will receive a copy of their video to share on social media, and APA will keep the footage to hold as part of its permanent library collection and archives.
