111 Intriguing Chats for 2011

I found myself thinking back over all the great 1-on-1 conversations I had in 2010 and wanting to have more in 2011.

Here are the parameters I established for making my selections for this year.  First, they have to be active on Twitter. I defined this as they had to have tweeted in December.  Second, they had to be following me; in other words, we needed to have already established a connection.  As many of you know, the priority of engaging and connecting is a big one for me- a soapbox- if you will, and I don’t understand those who simply look at social media as a way to promote their agenda, products, and/or services.  Also, anyone I had a 1-on-1 chat with in 2010 would not appear on this list nor would those where I’ve had significant interaction and a fairly good understanding of their work.

Generally, there is something intriguing about the background, role, company, etc. of those who appear on this list.  Look carefully: there are college professors and authors, Emmy-winners and event planners, company founders and storytellers. There are those who are retro gamers, huggers, triplets, or ostrich riders. Others declare their love for shiny objects, bacon, or coffee.   One proclaims that he is a believer in naps, and beware of another who terrifies Twitter with his threats to take your lunch and eat your cookies.  I love some of the Twitter handles; my favorites from this list are @cagedether, @TigerSteve, @roarevents, @FreshLime, @ready2spark, and @emrldcitychick.

My objectives are to learn more about their business and goals.  These conversations will take as little as 15 and no more than 30 minutes.  This is my personal list, but please feel free to reference or use it.  You may decide to develop your own.  It should also be noted that the list reflects my interests: associations, events, travel, tech, government, education, social media, communications, marketing, public relations, and jobs.

While it is a geographically diverse list (throughout US and Canada [8] and one from England), a higher proportion come from the area where I live and work: Northern Virginia/Washington, DC.  Other states with strong representation include California (16), New York (6), Pennsylvania (5), Florida (4), and Texas (4).  Individuals from North Carolina, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Oregon, and Idaho stand alone as delegates from these states.

Below are 111 profiles for individuals I hope to have similar chats with in 2011. No one on this list knew that they would be named to it.  If you are on this list and wish to schedule a chat with me, please call me at 703.430.6411, email me at jay@chatterbachs.com; or DM me on Twitter (@ChatterBachs).  The list is in alphabetical order by Twitter handle.  The information appears in this format: Twitter handle- name; location; Twitter bio.
