Best Benefit Ever: A Crash Course for Payroll Professionals

Here's how one association is helping payroll pros get the education they need to keep up with the pace of change.

What’s the benefit? The Global Payroll Association has formed a partnership with the Payroll Alliance to increase awareness of the latter’s advanced diploma in payroll management. The educational opportunity, which may have previously gone unnoticed by GPA members, will now be promoted on GPA’s site and in the association’s promotional materials. The online courses are divided into five modules covering topics from tax and statutory payments to employee rights, auditing, office management, and beyond. All qualifications are accredited by the British education board Edexcel. “We are thrilled to work alongside the Payroll Alliance. Their extensive experience in delivering payroll-related training and qualifications will be a great asset to the new Global Payroll Association,” GPA CEO Melanie Pizzey said in a statement.

Why it works for members: Payroll professionals do a lot more than ensure that employees get the pay they deserve. The field sits at a complicated intersection of business, law, and human resources, and as organizations become increasingly international, the complexity is amplified. That’s why it’s essential for GPA members to stay informed. “The GPA provides an invaluable resource to fellow payroll professionals around the world. More and more organizations are operating payrolls across multiple countries, so finding out information on overseas tax rules, benefits, and so forth is critical,” Linda Pullan, head of Payroll Alliance, said in the statement.

Other perks: GPA also gives members access to exclusive forums, directories, country-specific fact cards, and Purely Global e-magazine, as well as discounts on training and events. This year, GPA also debuted a partnership with HRcomparison.com to become, as Pizzey explained, a “one-stop shop, providing an entire global resource of HR and payroll software for companies.”
