Conference Circuit: Composites Convention

The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo begins next week in Dallas. Attendance is expected to top 8,000.

Thousands of composites industry leaders and professionals are headed to Dallas next week to hear about the latest research, exchange ideas with colleagues, and discover new solutions and technologies to help with their current and future projects.

CAMX 2018 kicks off on Tuesday with the CAMX Live! General Session featuring Charlie Kuehmann, vice president of materials engineering for both SpaceX and Tesla Motors and former product design leader at Apple. He’ll share insights on delivering materials innovations in areas such as high-speed travel, electric cars, and space travel. Also on the agenda:

Innovation location. Innovation Park, located on the expo floor, includes specialized zones for learning, networking, and inspiration. Options include Consultants Corner, where attendees can receive one-on-one constructive advice from industry consultants, and Campfire Sessions with subject-matter experts sharing ideas on new trends and developments.

Featured education. With presentations by high-level industry leaders and technical experts, CAMX Featured Sessions deliver cutting-edge information to help attendees improve products and processes, expand their business, and plan for the future. Topics this year include how smart manufacturing and artificial intelligence are affecting the industry.

Industry in action. Bell Helicopter is offering attendees tours of its two main composite manufacturing centers. Part one of the tour includes a walk-through of the Rotors Center, where Bell builds the blades for all of its helicopters and tiltrotors. Part two will feature a visit to Bell’s Advanced Composite Center, where components such as wing skins, yokes, and grips for the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor are built.
