Conference Circuit: Conservation Efforts

The National Association of Conservation Districts' 2017 Annual Meeting begins over the weekend in Denver. About 1,000 are expected to be in attendance.

More than 1,000 conservationists from around the country are headed to Denver to network; learn about new technologies, services, and programs; and discuss conservation policy and legislation.

Organization: National Association of Conservation Districts

Conference: 2017 Annual Meeting

Venue: Sheraton Downtown Denver

City: Denver

After a welcome reception on Sunday evening, NACD’s 71st Annual Meeting officially starts on Monday with an opening general session featuring Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, Agriculture Commissioner Don Brown, and Olympian Jenny Simpson. Also on the agenda:

Book smarts. For the 10th year running, attendees are encouraged to take part in NACD’s community outreach program, “Pack-A-Book,” by bringing one or more natural resource, environmental, or conservation-related books with them to Denver. Books will be donated to North Elementary in Brighton, Colorado.

Once, twice, sold. The 2017 NACD Live Auction will be on Monday evening. Featuring auctioneer Johnny Regula, the auction will include everything from handcrafted quilts and freshwater pearls, to corn and soybean seed, to a John Deere Gator Utility Vehicle. In years past, the event has raised more than $80,000 for NACD.

Tour guide. By offering six optional tours, NACD is encouraging attendees to learn more about both Denver and Colorado. Among the options: an evening at the Denver Museum of Nature Science, a Lariat Loop tour that includes a stop at Red Rocks amphitheater, and a visit to three local craft breweries (which is already sold out).
