Membership Hack: Conference Call Seminars

The National Ayurvedic Medical Association hosts a monthly after-hours seminar by conference call. Each dial-in session is a chance for both members and nonmembers to learn more about Ayurveda health.

How to hack it? The National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) has members scattered around the country and the world, which is why it helps Ayurvedic health professionals connect and learn in a free seminar by teleconference once a month. The one-hour calls start at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time on the fourth Monday of the month.

“Any number of our highly revered members put on sessions,” says NAMA Membership Manager Jolynne Flores. “They’ve been going on for years.” The October seminar focused on fibromyalgia and Ayurveda.

Why does it work? The conference calls connect members regularly to talk about new and emerging health issues. NAMA posts the recordings online so users who miss a session can listen later. “Members learn about the latest and greatest techniques,” Flores says. “And they have access to the entire archive of past recordings.”

What’s the bonus? Members of the public can also dial in and participate in the live calls. “We get a lot of new members this way,” Flores says. “And a number of people apply to lead seminar sessions.”
