More than 1,200 specialty pharmacy professionals—including senior executives, pharmacy directors, staff pharmacists, consultants, and other management-level personnel—are headed to the nation’s capital to participate in continuing-education sessions, make new connections with other professionals in their field, share best practices, and meet with exhibitors.

Following a welcome from NASP’s executive director and board president, NASP 2019 will kick off Monday afternoon with a keynote presentation by Boomer Esiason. The former NFL quarterback will talk about his success on and off the field, including how his foundation has raised more than $90 million for research toward finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. Also worth noting:

Legislative agenda. With the meeting taking place in DC, it makes sense that many of its sessions focus on national legislative and regulatory policy affecting the industry. One session will dive into proposals  for Medicare reform, while another will discuss how to manage regulations affecting pharmacy operations like prescription drug management programs.

Women supporting women. The conference will include the Women in Specialty Pharmacy Networking Lunch. The event will allow women to network, socialize, and discuss how to navigate the workplace and manage work-life balance by sharing experiences and best practices.

Keep learning. A variety of optional postconference workshops are also available. They include a prep course for pharmacists studying for October examinations given by the Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board, as well as a home infusion workshop that features subject-matter experts from the National Home Infusion Association.
