After education sessions earlier on Sunday, AJS 2018 kicks off that afternoon with a plenary featuring Dr. Maud Mandel, the incoming president of Williams College, and the announcement of the 2018 Jordan Schnitzer Book Awards. Also on the agenda:

Open opportunity. AJS is piloting a new activity called “Open Space,” where attendees will have the opportunity to host mini-discussions about any topic of interest concerning the field of Jewish studies. The room will be broken into sections to accommodate multiple conversations at the same time.

50 and fabulous. To mark the conference’s 50th anniversary, AJS will host a series of special “50 and Forward” sessions, where attendees can join in a conversation about where the organization stands today and help to shape the AJS of the future.

Insider tips. On its “Art of Conferencing” webpage, AJS gives attendees and presenters a number of resources to help make the meeting experience more valuable. Topics include how to give an exciting talk, interviewing at a conference, and how to pitch your book at a conference.
