Statement on Multilateral Compromise to Remove Digital Services Taxes

Washington, DC – Today, IA President and CEO K. Dane Snowden released the following statement in response to the multilateral taxation agreement between the United States, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom — an agreement which focuses on transitioning from discriminatory digital services taxes (DSTs) to a pragmatic taxation framework:

“Internet Association welcomes today’s announcement that the United States, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom have reached an agreement to begin bringing the era of discriminatory digital services taxes to its rightful end. This agreement is another welcome step towards providing certainty for internet companies and improving the digital economy for internet users worldwide. The internet industry encourages India and Turkey to follow suit, and we commend the Biden administration, including U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, for their efforts to seek a modern, multilateral tax system for the digital age.”
