A million years ago back in Dallas (actual time: just over a month), Jeff De Cagna , in his unsession on Associations Unorthodox, has asked us to think about radical questions to ask. Now I love the idea of a radical question. One of the focal points of my consulting work is that asking the right question is as important as getting the right answer, if not more so.

Inspiration comes in many forms. In today's post I want to share some of the people, blogs, books, and music inspiring me lately. From PR to Pop!, this is what's feeding my head and what you just might want to feed yours. I also wanted to target this post for women specifically because a lot of what I'm reading, learning, and investing time in happens to be female-focused right now.

Positive messages ("be on time") work better than negative messages ("don't be late") - and there are neuroscientific reasons why. Interesting debate going on about (once more, with feeling) the future of associations. Want more - and better - exhibitors? Stop thinking of them as cash registers. "Hi, my name is." Great advice for introducing yourself.

Since I’m not willing to camp out in front of the Apple Store, it’s going to be a few weeks until my iPhone 5 arrives. When it does, it will bring the count of cell phones that I’ve owned up to a dozen. I’ve come a long way from the Motorola bag phone. [link] Now, [.].

You might as well. Because according to the research report put out by Towers Watson , only about one third of employees (globally) are highly engaged in their jobs. They surveyed 32,000 people to come to that conclusion, so these data are nothing to sneeze at. Okay, I don’t ACTUALLY recommend you get rid of the other two-thirds of your employees, but I wanted to draw attention to how utterly ridiculous it is that only one out of three people in our offices, on average, is actually highly

Last week I sat down with the always provocative Jeff De Cagna about his new book, Associations Unorthodox: Six Really Radical Shifts Toward the Future. What I love about Jeff is his candor and clarity. The guy just knows how to take ideas apart and play with them like no one else! I'm envious at how well he does this and every time I talk with him I come away a little wiser.

Revolved Chair. I had a particularly amazing yoga practice last week. It’s hard to explain exactly what makes a yoga practice amazing (especially if you’ve never tried it before). I happened to be running a bit later than usual, so I found myself “stuck” with a spot in the front row. As someone who’s a bit out of shape these days (okay, a lot out of shape), this certainly could not be the source of my excitement.

When I was growing up I took piano lessons. Each week I would clutch my latest Bastien or Alfred's piano instruction book and march into my lesson while my mother met with her best friend over coffee. The ritual was soothing, mechanical, something I could rely on. When I returned home, I'd go to the sunken living room with gold shag carpeting, and sit at the old antique upright piano and play.

What is required for a facilitated session to produce bold thinking and fresh ideas? As more organizations focus on innovation, this is a question that every facilitator must be prepared to answer. We have to increase our understanding of the relationship between creativity and innovation , become more familiar with the discipline of design thinking and its applications, and build our capacity and competence to design and facilitate ideation and rapid prototyping sessions that help individuals a

Across the nonprofit sector, organizations invest heavily in donor retention efforts, yet the struggle of cultivating lasting relationships remains. While attracting new donors is crucial, the lack of repeat donors poses significant financial risks. Through a comprehensive analysis of industry data, experts argue that there is a direct correlation between donor burnout, donor retention, and the talent retention crisis.

If I had not been a part of the discussion myself, I might not have believed it. Here we were—a group of intelligent, caring, and capable individuals—discussing what would be required to accomplish the direction we had set. The answer? To create systems, procedures, and checks and balances to manage a dynamic and a set of concerns that had yet to emerge.
