Hope for the Best and Plan for the Worst – A Conversation with Max Brooks

How we can learn from fictional threats with real-world solutions?

Max Brooks is used to using fictional metaphor (like zombie lore) and historical events to facilitate discourse around large-scale problem-solving. He regularly explores new ways to attack old problems as well as new concerns, which is a valuable exercise when we are all in the midst of a global health crisis.

For this interview, I asked the bestselling author to tackle some tough questions, like “what are the threads that hold society together, and what’s really at stake when those threads are stressed, loosed, or torn?”

From the basic responsibilities of civilians and corporations to the over-arching role of government and the military, we talked about what each of these entities can—and should—be prepared to do to survive, and rebuild, in the face of real-world threats, disasters, and the otherwise unexpected.

Please enjoy this great interview with Max Brooks!

Special thanks to Mike D’Andrea, GTN, A UTA Company, for making this interview possible.
