The coolest thing I saw all week, no contest, was Felix Baumgartner’s supersonic free fall skydive. Nothing beats that. Red Bull has two short videos of the event: a 1:30 minute highlight version and a 4:30 minute full recap version. Both are exhilarating to watch. We don’t take the orientation process nearly as seriously as we should. And even when we take it seriously, we tend to focus on administrative details. We make sure people have the HR forms and employee manuals. That’s all good, but does it help the new employee really own her job? If you want ownership behavior (critical to open organizations, as we argue in Humanize ), then you need to make sure everyone in your organization really knows what drives success and how things work.

Partners search for opportunities to support, contribute, and be of service. That's the bottom line message of the keynote I am delivering about right now on Powerful Partnerships. It reminds me of my days in high school when I was a restaurant server. Our restaurant was divided into sections of 6-8 tables, each assigned to an individual server. My first few days I spent a lot of time watching other servers to see what I could learn.

“Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah. Blah, blah, blah!” The words fall from the speaker’s mouth to listener’s ears. The more the speaker shares, the more the listeners quickly forget. Here’s a truth: Content covered by the speaker does not automatically translate into content learned by the audience. Same Old, Same Old.
