Statement On Section 301 Proposed Actions For DSTs

Washington, DC – Today, Internet Association’s Director of Trade Policy, Jordan Haas, issued the following statement as part of the Office of the United States Trade Representative’s (USTR) public notice and comment process on Section 301 investigations of Digital Services Taxes (DSTs) adopted by Austria, India, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom:

“IA appreciates USTR’s leadership in defending U.S. industry and workers. The digital industry hopes every government that has moved forward with DSTs will roll back their discriminatory taxes before any escalation occurs. The U.S. should continue to help build a global consensus at the OECD around developing a modern, fair, and global approach to taxing in the digital age while still sending a strong message to trading partners that DSTs are not the appropriate solution.”

Internet Association filed the following comments on proposed trade actions as part of USTR’s Section 301 investigations of six countries’ DSTs:

With these filings, IA hopes to emphasize the importance of rolling back discriminatory taxes while simultaneously finding a global solution to taxation in the modern digital economy.
