'Last week, Associations Now did a story on my awesome client NICSA and the new membership model project we worked on together last summer. They’ve graciously given me permission to reprint it below: By Joe Rominiecki / Apr 30, 2014 . How one association unbundled some of its benefits and packaged them around “clusters of behavior” in its member engagement data.

Our latest experiment is one of the simplest in its construction. Our values statement has four broad values, and for each value it includes a dozen or so behaviors by which we will know an individual is acting in accordance

'Last week, Maddie and I visited Menlo Innovations , a software company in Ann Arbor, Michigan. You may remember my book review a couple of months ago of Joy, Inc., written by Rich Sheridan, the founder and CEO of Menlo. Menlo has been covered fairly extensively in the business press for their unorthodox (and highly successful) methods, including having everyone work together in pairs (literally two people per one computer).

'An association’s brand is more than just a logo—it’s the stories people tell about you. Are you listening to what’s being said in connection with your organization’s name? If you want a sense of just how intimately connected branding and leadership are, take a look at the animated GIF in Rob Stott’s story last week about ousted Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

'Recently, I wrote about how most conference organizers are really bad at measurement. Oh, we’re fairly good at measuring our conference goals. As long as those goals are based on common conference inputs and outputs. You know, expenses/revenue, attendance, exhibitors and sponsors. But rarely do we measure anything else that proves ROI, ROO or ROA (return on attendance).

'Take six minutes to watch this TED talk given by General Stanley McChrystal , in which he makes the case for sharing information, rather than keeping it secret. He worked for years leading the fight against Al Qaeda in Iraq, and he said that THE biggest factor in the success that they had was not due to better tactics, better weapons, or better strategies—it was their ability share information across silos and agencies that had previously been kept secret. “Information is only of value if

The American Chemical Society has a formula to fix that: It’s launching the first-ever association dedicated to K-12 chemistry educators to help support them in the classroom.
