Skin Cancer Foundation and Amazon Announce New Content-Sharing Partnership

A new partnership with Amazon will bring a wider audience to the Skin Cancer Foundation’s content, expertise, and advice related to the world’s most common cancer.

In less than two weeks, Memorial Day will herald the unofficial start to summer. Millions of Americans will likely jet off to the beach, while others will flock to the pool or congregate around the grill to celebrate—especially if the day is bright and sunny.

But with the sun comes harmful ultraviolet radiation, which is the cause of nearly 90 percent of nonmelanoma skin cancers, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. In fact, one-out-of-five Americans will develop a skin cancer over the course of his or her lifetime, making it the world’s most common cancer.

This is just some of the information that the Skin Cancer Foundation hopes to convey through a new content-sharing partnership. Amazon will feature Foundation articles on everything from seasonal sun protection to the importance of early detection on its Professional Skin Care Section.

Amazon’s Professional Skin Care Section currently sells “skin care products typically sold by dermatologists“ from cleansers to toners, and it also features an “Expert Advice” section, in which dermatologists and other expert groups, such as the American Academy of Dermatology, lend their voices in the form of articles, infographics, and videos.

Through these articles, the Skin Cancer Foundation hopes to educate a wider audience on how they can lower their risk of acquiring this cancer by adopting a simple sun-protection routine, which includes regular application of sunscreen; covering up with clothing, hats, and sunglasses; and seeking shade in high sun.

“When you consider the prevalence of this disease and how many people will see our messages, we know that lives will be saved,” said Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, president of the Skin Cancer Foundation, in a press release. “We’re grateful for Amazon’s support of our mission, and we look forward to working together for many years to come.”

In addition, the partnership will help support some of the Foundation’s education initiatives, including SkinCancer.org, the leading online resource for skin cancer information; Sun Smart U, the Foundation’s youth-education program; and Heads Up!, an early-detection education program for beauty professionals.
