Texas Apartment Group Campaign Looks to Recruit New Workforce

With industry growth comes the need for new professionals. The Texas Apartment Association Education Foundation’s new campaign seeks to find them.

A new campaign from the Texas Apartment Association Education Foundation aims to raise awareness of the growing apartment industry and draw new professionals to fill the open positions.

“Our primary goal is raising awareness for this industry and drawing attention to it so that we can bring in new people into this industry … and making sure that folks do realize what a great opportunity that you’ve got in this industry,” TAAEF President Tami Martin said. “Not a lot of industries are out there like ours where you can move your way up. You’ve got a lot of room for advancement.”

The “Room to Grow” campaign—targeted at military members and their families, high school and college graduates, and millennials—specifically highlights the different specialties and the opportunities to move up within the apartment industry.

“There’s just so many opportunities within this industry that we just hope through this campaign that we aren’t the best kept secret anymore,” Martin said. “We want for everybody to know what an awesome industry we have for folks and absolutely have room to grow with this industry.”

To engage potential candidates, the campaign’s website currently includes an interactive career matching tool that helps individuals find their job fit in the industry, a job of the week section, job boards, and employee spotlight videos allowing professionals to share their work experience. “It’s a very people-oriented, personal, caring industry that having someone tell their story and connecting in that way is very important,” Martin said.

In the future, the site will feature educational resources like videos of industry experts sharing their insights or opportunities for job seekers and current professionals to connect.

Lastly, the program will involve networking and philanthropic events, like community garden planting programs, where potential candidates can meet current apartment professionals. Currently, 75,000 Texans work in the apartment industry, which has grown to a $150 billion business.

While the campaign is targeting new industry entrants to build up the workforce, it also works internally by providing a customized toolkit to local associations and member companies to help them bring attention to industry jobs.

“Through the efforts driven by TAAEF, this campaign will bolster our future by revitalizing our workforce and welcome home new employees and ultimately members into this thriving industry,” Texas Apartment Association President-Elect Jackie Rhone said in a press release.
