More than 1,000 artistic administrators, composers, conductors, musicians, and business partners are headed to Nashville to  network with colleagues, learn about new industry innovations, and discuss how orchestras can grow and adapt.

Following preconference seminars, the League’s National Conference begins on Monday afternoon with an opening plenary featuring Giancarlo Guerrero. The Nashville Symphony’s music director will explore how musical convictions must inform an orchestra’s authentic connection to its community and reflect an active cultivation of diverse talent. Also on the agenda:

Snapshot of success. “Check This Out!” gives attendees a quick snapshot of the exciting work happening in orchestras nationwide. Each presentation will be approximately 10 minutes long and introduce innovations that have the potential to be replicated. Presentations will include using social media to reach modern audiences and how orchestras are creating awareness of the benefits of music in medicine.

Up for debate. On Tuesday afternoon, two industry leaders will face a panel of colleagues to debate some of the tensions and opportunities underpinning orchestras’ work around equity, diversity, and inclusion. For example, they’ll discuss assumptions the field holds that might limit the extent to which EDI can enrich orchestras.

Give back. The 3rd Annual League Giving Day will take place during the meeting. The goal: to raise $75,000 in 24 hours. The proceeds will support a number of League initiatives, including establishing a new headquarters in the heart of New York City’s Garment District.
