Conference Circuit: Geriatric Psychiatry

The American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry’s 2019 Annual Meeting starts next week in Atlanta. Attendance is expected to exceed 1,000.

Hundreds of physicians and other healthcare professionals focused on late-life mental illness are headed to Atlanta next week to hear about cutting-edge research and clinical innovations and to interact with industry leaders and other attendees.

Following preconference workshops, AAGP2019 begins on Thursday evening with an opening plenary, which includes an awards presentation and an address from AAGP’s president-elect. Also on the agenda:

Personalized medicine. The 2019 Neuroscience Teaching Day is focused on personalized medicine. Three presentations and a panel discussion will examine the role of patient-centered research designs in personalizing treatment of depression, a leading cause of morbidity in older adults.

Next-gen professionals. The AAGP Scholars Program provides an opportunity for psychiatry residents and medical students to attend the meeting and take part in a special educational track. The program’s goal is to encourage these scholars to pursue specialized training in geriatric psychiatry.

Hot topics. During afternoon roundtable discussions, attendees will have the chance to engage in informal chat with colleagues on pertinent topics. Among them: telehealth, cognitive disability, and psychiatric symptoms in preclinical and early clinical stages of Alzheimer’s.
