Conference Circuit: American Association of Law Libraries

The American Association of Law Libraries’ 2019 Annual Meeting & Conference begins this weekend in Washington, DC. Attendance is expected to be 2,000.

About 2,000 legal information professionals are headed to the nation’s capital to connect with peers, learn about the tools and services to keep them at the top of the industry, and gain knowledge that will help them succeed in the evolving profession.

Organization: American Association of Law Libraries

Conference: AALL Annual Meeting & Conference

Venue: Walter E. Washington Convention Center

City: Washington, DC

Following preconference workshops and a reception on Saturday, AALL 2019 officially begins on Sunday morning with an opening general session and keynote. Shon Hopwood, an associate law professor at Georgetown University Law Center, will discuss his unusual legal journey, which began not at law school, but federal prison. Also on the agenda:

Can’t-miss programming. The 2019 Annual Meeting Program Committee solicited and curated “must-have” programs on timely topics that AALL members have identified as being vital to their professional education. Topics include using virtual reality in the law classroom and navigating the copyright permission process.

Local knowledge. Attendees have the chance to tour local library institutions during their time in DC. Among the options offered: visits to the American University Washington College of Law’s Pence Law Library, Law Library of Congress, and the Supreme Court Library.

Discussion dens. These informal chats will be held throughout the conference as alternatives to regular programs. Designed to be conversational rather than presentational, they are an opportunity for attendees to brainstorm, sound off, and share challenges, experiences, and ideas in a smaller setting.
