Conference Circuit: Human Services

The American Public Human Services Association’s IT Solutions Management for Human Services Conference begins next week in Milwaukee. Attendance is expected to hit 1,500.

Around 1,500 technology leaders in the health and human services sector, along with federal officials, are headed to Milwaukee to hear about trends and top-of-mind questions from industry experts, experience the latest technology products and services, and exchange ideas with peers.

Organization: American Public Human Services Association

Meeting: IT Solutions Management for Human Services (ISM) Conference

Venue: Wisconsin Center

City: Milwaukee

Following an opening reception on Sunday evening, ISM 2019 kicks off Monday morning with an opening general session. Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barne and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will welcome attendees, and then keynoter Brett Culp will take the stage. He’ll discuss “superhero leadership” and how everyone has the opportunity and capacity to make an impact. Also on the agenda:

Crucial topics. Courageous Conservation sessions are a new type of discussion-based learning focused on tough topics facing the industry. Among the issues that will be addressed: improving workforce well-being and how legalized marijuana will affect social services.

Building blocks. Attendees can get their creative juices flowing by participating in the meeting’s first CanConstruction project. Up to five teams will have an opportunity to build a Milwaukee-themed structure using canned goods, which will be donated to local nonprofit Hunger Task Force at the end of the conference.

Step it up. The meeting’s wellness challenge gives attendees the chance to get some exercise while taking part in some friendly competition. Using the conference app, participants can move up the leaderboard and try to exceed step goals and win prizes. Attendees can also earn “free steps” by locating and scanning QR codes at strategic locations throughout the center.
