Conference Circuit: National Black Nurses Association

The National Black Nurses Association’s 45th Annual Institute and Conference begins in the upcoming days in Las Vegas. More than 1,000 are expected to attend.

More than 1,000 nurses will make their way to Las Vegas over the next few days to identify best practices, discuss professional challenges and solutions, and network with their colleagues in all areas of practice.

Following preconference sessions on Monday, NBNA 2017 will officially start on Tuesday morning with an opening plenary called “Building a Culture of Health.” Also on the meeting agenda:

Book smarts. NBNA will host a book drive to benefit the local charity Spread the Word Nevada, which provides books to at-risk students. New or gently used books that attendees bring to the conference will be given to kids in pre-K to eighth grade.

Glitz and glamour. Tuesday evening will feature the Jewels and Jeans Gala. Attendees are encouraged to trade in their evening gowns, tuxedos, and cocktail dresses for jewel-studded jeans, denim shirts, and sequined tops. The evening will celebrate the profession, while giving attendees the chance to kick back and have some fun.

Career boost. Once again, the conference will feature the NBNA Career and Educational Fair. Attendees will have the chance to meet with representatives from more than 100 hospitals and healthcare systems about nursing positions. Career-related continuing education will also be offered in this space.
