Social Media Roundup: Turbulence Ahead for Frequent Flyers

Four airlines make changes to their frequent flyer programs—here's what you should know. Also: No, your nephew should not build your association’s website.

Are you a member of an airline’s frequent flyer program? You’ll want to read up on recent changes that you may love or hate.

The details, and more, in today’s Social Media Roundup:

Frequent Flyer Changes

Several airlines have made changes—some good, some bad—to their frequent flyer programs. Did you know that JetBlue points no longer expire? They’re now good for life. It’s one of several modifications to the popular airline programs, conveniently compiled by The New York Times. “Some changes could be for the better (earning miles on partner airlines, converting hotel stays into airline miles, access to more lounges); others, not so much (higher award ticket fees, minimum annual spending requirements, disappearing bonuses),” the Times reports. Marketing Myths

Tell us if you’ve heard this one before: My nephew can build my website. That’s one of 10 marketing myths you should ignore, according to Debra Murphy at Social Media Today. For DIY website creators out there, Murphy has this insight: “[U]nderstanding best practices around content organization and user experience is critical to making sure your visitors find what they are looking for. By all means, if you can technically create your own website, do so. But invest in a marketing person to critique the site layout, content organization, on-page optimization, your call to action and landing pages.” (ht @TEgly)
