Benchmark survey on communicating in the current climate. Naylor and Association Adviser’s annual Association Communications Benchmarking Study is now open to association professionals. Your participation will help associations understand how others in the community are navigating communications in the current climate. Specific questions about the impact of the coronavirus have been added. For every respondent that takes at least 50% of the survey, Naylor will donate $10 to the World Central Kitchen’s #ChefsForAmerica COVID-19 program. Bravo.

Marketing virtual/online education. You can’t market as usual right now, you must market carefully and caringly, says WBT Systems. They provide advice for revisiting your marketing personas and strategies and creating the right type of messaging for this moment.

Chapter sponsorships. Chapters can continue to generate non-dues revenue by partnering with their sponsors in new ways. Billhighway explains how to help chapters leverage their event and content assets to deliver desperately needed revenue to their bottom line and value to sponsors.

Virtual event sponsors and exhibitors. MemberSuite describes how to show virtual event ROI to sponsors and exhibitors by creating opportunities for them to achieve their marketing goals: increasing brand awareness, providing thought leadership, showcasing their products, and developing and deepening relationships.

Virtual conference success story. I’m going to keep my eye out for good stories since everyone’s trying to learn about virtual conferences right now. If you know of a good one to share, please let me know. In this video, Oscar Larson from the American Association of Geographers tells their virtual conference success story with a guest appearance from Reggie Henry who talks about ASAE’s virtual MMC Conference.

Virtual conference of the week. If you’re planning a virtual conference, check out the Learning & Development Conference, especially their 6-week “learn in the workflow” experience and Making a Case page.

Quick hits before we get to the list of this week’s free education:

  • What are you most excited to do when the pandemic ends? Patrick Dorsey at Impexium asked a bunch of us that question. You can start with Part 3 and find links to the other posts there. (Impexium)
  • Airstream’s Portable Park goes to Yellowstone. (Airstream)

Good eats—skip down to the list of free webinars if you’re not into cooking. If you are, check out my weekly In The Kitchen posts for more.

  • Highlight of the week (non-pasta department): soft shell crabs—yes they’re here!—dredged in flour and pan-fried in butter, then doused with lemon. I had a few Pirate Pearls oysters beforehand, scarfed down the rest on Saturday afternoon.
  • One of my fish nights featured pan-seared blueline tilefish in a white wine tomato basil sauce—very timely because my young basil plants needed pruning. On the side, roasted potatoes tossed with sage pesto.
  • I had high hopes for this sheet pan gnocchi with asparagus, leeks and peas recipe, but I messed up. I followed the advice in the comments and didn’t cook my shelf-stable gnocchi (I was lazy). If I had boiled it first, it probably would have been soft inside and crunchy outside instead of chewy. Otherwise, we liked this dish, although I used red onion instead of leeks, skipped the shallots, and added only dill pesto (which has parmesan in it) and lemon zest. Got to do what you got to do.
  • Strawberry season is on full blast right now. Made some strawberry margaritas on Saturday—a strange accompaniment to oysters on the half shell. Sunday morning, I baked these fantastic strawberry scones to have with our breakfast frittata and leftover potatoes.
  • Ok, the real highlight of the week was smoked gouda carbonara. Yes, you read that right. Travesty? Not in this house. Oh my, it was really good. I added onion and parsley to the recipe. Pasta is my happy place.

Here are the educational events scheduled for next week. If you have a free webinar or event coming up, please send me the link before Wednesday evening the week before it’s scheduled. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not too product-centric.

Stay safe, stay well, take care.
