Thursday Buzz: VIP Experiences That Drive Revenue

People are happy to pay a little more for VIP experiences. Here’s how special advantages could benefit both your attendees and your association. Also: How to think about the changing nature of knowledge in the digital age.

Plenty of meeting attendees are looking for a premiere experience. By providing a few extra perks, you can deliver a special conference experience to those members and boost your own revenue at the same time.

The MemberClicks blog shares several creative benefits that people may be willing to pay a little more for at your next meeting.

If people are buzzing about your keynote speakers, give VIP attendees the ability to reserve seats in advance or provide them with access to a private Q&A session. You could also host an exclusive VIP reception at a fun location with industry leaders.

Is your event at an interesting location like a museum? Set up your VIPs with a private behind-the-scenes tour.

And just as everyone would prefer to spend their airport time in first-class lounges, give your special guests their own private spaces featuring phone chargers, snacks, and even massages.

Knowledge Is Power

It’s no secret that technology has profoundly changed the nature of the association space. Associations were once the keepers of specialized knowledge, but technology has made that information more accessible to all.

“This is a scary beast for many of us, whose business models depend on our ability to provide superior intellectual resources for our members,” says Martin Sirk, a writer for MeetingsNet.

Sirk goes on to say that associations must also take into account the massive amount of tacit knowledge that they hold. “But to develop a strategy that can exploit this resource to the fullest, associations need to become far more expert in the fields of trust-culture development and networking theory, especially if we want to turn our meetings into tacit knowledge powerhouses,” writes Sirk.
