The National Association for College Admission Counseling’s 71st National Conference set sail this week.

A record-setting 7,000 college admission counselors and enrollment professionals are in San Diego to collaborate with colleagues and learn how to best help students navigate the college application process.

Association:  National Association for College Admission Counseling

Conference:  71st National Conference

Venue: San Diego Convention Center

Location: San Diego

NACAC’s 71st National Conference will feature keynote speaker Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, a nonprofit with the mission of providing free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere. He’ll share his vision for expanding access to postsecondary education. Also on the syllabus:

Night owls welcome. Attendees who are not fans of early morning workouts can register for the End of the Day 5K Run/Walk. Not only is it good exercise, but entry fees support NACA’s Imagine Fund, which provides annual grants to college counseling professionals to use for their own professional development or for implementing special projects to help guide their students through the transition process from high school to postsecondary education.

Quick takes. In addition to regular 75-minute education sessions, 30-minute Learning Lounge sessions offer brief, fast-paced, interactive idea-sharing about one specific topic area, current trend, or case study. The format focuses on audience participation in an intimate, conversation-intensive environment.

It’s a match. To help with networking, this year’s conference will feature the Meet Your Match game. Attendees will be asked to attach a button—featuring a number—to their badge lanyard. They then need to look for their “match”—another attendee with the same badge number. Once the pair meet up, they can go to the NACAC booth to receive a giveaway. Plus, they will be entered to win larger prizes, like 2016 conference registration or an Apple Watch.
