Conference Circuit: Getting Analytical

The American Psychoanalytic Association’s 106th Annual Meeting is set to start in Austin, Texas, next week. More than 500 attendees will be onsite.

Some 500 psychoanalytically trained psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists, and researchers will make their way to Texas’ capital city next week. Attendees will be able to earn continuing education credits—in areas that include risk management, ethics, and cultural competency—while meeting, learning, and sharing information with colleagues.

Organization: American Psychoanalytic Association

Conference: 106th Annual Meeting

Venue: Austin Hilton Hotel

City: Austin, Texas

The APsaA meeting kicks off on Friday morning with an opening general session called “Race and Borders: American Identity.” Three presenters will offer short commentaries to stimulate ideas and frame questions for the town hall discussion that follows. Also on the agenda:

Warm welcome. Before the meeting, first-timers can schedule an appointment with a program committee member who will offer personal guidance based on an attendee’s interests. A committee member will contact them by email or phone to go over the program and then suggest sessions that might be most beneficial and enjoyable.

Travel money. To make the costs involved with attending the conference a little easier, APsaA offers a handful of scholarships. Up to $500 will be given for travel costs, and the $200 registration fee will be waived. The scholarship is only available to members attending their first meeting.

Meet and greet. The Meet the Author event gives attendees the chance to get some face time with industry writers. Daphne Merkin, author of This Close to Happy, will share her insights on depression and its treatment and will take questions from the audience.

Facebook and Twitter will have the other meeting details you’re looking for.
