According to a Bureau of Labor report in March, the overall volunteer rate of Americans last year was the lowest since 2002, when the bureau began tracking volunteer service. Hundreds of volunteers were involved in the success of the group’s meeting in Pittsburgh last June, which drew 3,200 delegates, as well as at its 2011 meeting in Peoria, Illinois, which had a record attendance of 5,000 delegates.
