Associations Now

SocialFish

We're about to produce our bi-annual newsletter IN COLOR for the first time since 1930. (I I think they had a newsletter from day one). I am, with the newsletter, trying to be sensitive to history and "the way it was" while moving a step closer to the 21st century. Next step, e-newsletter (obviously). So I read my first ever issue of Associations Now last night.

Note to Self: Periodically remember the un-wired

SocialFish

Of course, we have very deliberately moved from snail mail communications to electronic over the last few years, which means for these few remaining people who are NOT wired, that they receive a twice-yearly newsletter, our program brochures in the Spring, our Catalogue in August, and a handful (less than 5) paper mailings which are usually requests for donations and that sort of thing.

Listerve - 1, Forum - nil

SocialFish

I have five Members' only forums, including a Bulletin Board, several discussion forums, and a Newsletter discussion forum. I'm considering shutting down my forums temporarily. given the tumbleweeds blowing through them and the wind whistling in the canyons. I think I have too many, for a start.

Six degrees of. marketing?

SocialFish

Obviously the same thing happens in associations, whether it's that "there's too much money being spent on such and such brochure", or "why do we need an E-Newsletter, when the black and white paper version has been good enough for years", etc etc. Everyone seems to be talking about word-of-mouth marketing vs. traditional marketing around the blogoclump - here , and here , and here , and here.

Decision to Join

SocialFish

was about how apparently the youngest age group do NOT show themselves to prefer new technologies for getting information from their associations, ranking "magazines and journals" over e-newsletters, websites, internet etc. (bmart, here you go!) So I just finished reading Decision to Join , the major research study into why people join associations, which updated a similar but much smaller study done in the eighties.
