As life becomes more complex, members have more options for spending their time and, consequently, more demands on their time. Juggling their work, family, and social lives with association service isn’t as easy as it used to be.

Choosing the Best Indicators to Measure Engagement. Members who engage in a way that is aligned with their association’s strategic goals directly help the association grow stronger and more relevant. Any association that has the ability to objectively score member engagement is in the enviable position of being able to measure the effectiveness of its members in supporting its strategy. Composite Engagement Score (CES) allows you to do just that.

Deciding on your association’s top strategic priorities leads you to the step of discovering Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure engagement of each member relative to those priorities. The key to KPI selection is that the KPI measures the engagement of the member in advancing the strategic priority. That is, it needs to measure the activity of the member that has a direct impact on achieving the strategic objective.

With an awareness of how essential it is to be able to score member engagement, and with an understanding of how to build a CES model, it’s time to implement the CES model you’ve designed. To start, figure out where your member-related data is stored at the database level, so that it can be extracted over time in a consistent manner. To me, it raises a much larger question: how does a member change the direction of the organizational ship, if s/hes not happy with where its going? for that group of members to provide a list of choices or to vet ASAEs list of choices.
