The weekly list of free educational events and resources for the association community…
What do you do at the end of a long, stressful day at the office? Work out? Binge watch TV? Open a bottle of wine? Everyone has different ways of coping, but some of these self-care habits are healthier than others. ‘Self-care’ is a popular topic these days because so many people are stressed and burnt out. In many industries, it’s reached a crisis point.
WBT Systems suggests associations investigate whether the professionals in their industry are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, and/or alcohol and drug misuse. If so, consider offering wellbeing education and resources, as many medical and legal associations have.
Chapters can cause stress for associations when they take on tasks they’re not equipped to handle. Billhighway explains how to prevent the worst from happening when chapters outsource services and hire staff.
Exhibitors want to stay loyal to industry conferences and trade shows, but they are weighing the expenses against the decreasing ROI. MemberSuite suggests five new ways you can offer more value to exhibitors.
Quick hits before we get to the list of this week’s free education:
- If your association has an online community, you’re encouraged to participate in the State of Community Management 2020 survey conducted by The Community Roundtable.
- A must-read for content marketers: how to create a strategic editorial calendar. (Kelsey Raymond, Content Marketing Institute)
- 20 incredibly useful things you didn’t know Google Maps could do. (JR Raphael, Fast Company)
Good eats—skip down to the list of free webinars if you’re not into cooking:
- Soup is hitting the sweet spot lately. On Sunday, I made this brothy chicken soup with hominy and poblano from the New York Times so I had something ready to go during the week. I added a jalapeño along with the poblano. Very tasty, especially with all the suggested garnishes.
- Jim made chili for Super Bowl night so I made my favorite buttermilk cornbread recipe from the Washington Post. It’s not too sweet so it’s a compromise between northern and southern tastes.
- I also made another favorite recipe since Meyer lemons are in season: Meyer lemon pudding cake.
- A few good vegetable ideas. The first is simple: snap peas tossed with a mix of melted butter, lemon juice, garlic salt, dried basil and Aleppo pepper flakes—one of my favorite spices this past year.
- The other is another José Andrés recipe from Milk Street (Sep/Oct 2019 issue) for cauliflower with smoked paprika, honey and sherry vinegar.
Here are the educational events scheduled for next week. If you have any free webinars or events coming up, please send me the link. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not product-centric.
