Association Brain Food Weekly: 2.4.22

The weekly list of free educational events and resources for the association community…

close-up photo of a bison's head with a snowy landscape in the background – inspiration for a weekly list of free educational events and resources for the association communityProblem-focused education. WBT Systems continues its Learning Science Made Easy series with an introduction to the instructional design model, Merrill’s Principles of Instruction. This common-sense approach to educational program design is focused on ensuring the learner practices the valuable skills or knowledge they plan to apply at work.

Management fails. Ed Zitron at The Atlantic points out that management failures in remote workspaces are nothing new—they happened in the office too, particularly the failure of managers to coach and train young professionals. He says, “The ‘magic’ of being in the same space that we hear so much about never occurred for me… No break room or management-consultant-driven pablum could compensate for the fact that I was never properly managed.”

Change agility. Josh Bersin released a playbook for change agility, which he describes as “a new roadmap for culture, management, learning, and rewards.” He’s not talking about change management. Instead, he says organizations and their culture must be designed for change. “Your ability to change is one of the most fundamental strengths you have.”

Good eats

Skip down to the list of free webinars if you prefer takeout.

Baked lemon parmesan vermillion snapper is easy to assemble yet delivers lots of flavor. The topping for the fish is a mix of parmesan cheese, panko bread crumbs, parsley, basil, lemon zest, garlic powder and melted butter.

The next night, we enjoyed sweet and spicy citrus striped bass. On the side for both nights, sautéed green beans with mushrooms, shallot, garlic, tomatoes and chicken broth. We also had roasted butternut squash wedges with maple syrup, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cinnamon and cayenne.

On Sunday, I made eggplant parmesan, a no-fry recipe. I added provolone cheese and basil pesto to the recipe. On the side, a sauté of greens (collards, mustard and turnip) with bacon, onion, red bell, poblano, jalapeño and dried cranberries. I satisfied my craving for garlic bread. My version is filled and slathered with semi-melted butter mixed with garlic powder, parmesan cheese, parsley, salt and pepper.
