Extreme brainstorming. If you want to kick your association out of the box in which it finds comfort, give these extreme brainstorming questions from WBT Systems a try. They may sound crazy at first, but they’ll take you down paths where, amidst the madness, you might find some interesting nuggets to pursue.
Marketing automation. With all the hoopla surrounding ChatGPT, it’s easy to forget that many of our existing tools already automate routine (and not-so-routine) tasks. Impexium describes three benefits of marketing automation, a capability you really must have in your association’s tech stack.
Abstract/conference management. Ex Ordo takes you through the steps of implementing conference and abstract management software for medical, technical, scientific, and academic events. They discuss configuring software for abstract submission and peer review, issuing the call for papers, designing the conference program, and more.
CliftonStrengths. Achurch Consulting explains how the CliftonStrengths assessment is a game-changer for teams, especially hybrid and remote teams. They also describe how it made a difference for two associations.
Memorable membership moments. “We do not remember days, we remember moments.” Wes Trochlil at Effective Database Management explains why your association should think about the small moments experienced by members and customers.
CMS/website RFP. No need to ask in ASAE Collaborate, Brightfind shares an RFP template for CMS and website redesign projects. This template is also helpful for other technology selection projects since those vendors will need much of the same information.
Digital badges. A few recent studies revealed that employers and learners understand the benefits of digital badges. But there’s just one problem: they’re confused by digital badges too. TopClass LMS explains how your association can clear up the confusion and attract employers and learners to your digital badge programs—plus why you should do it sooner rather than later.
Young professionals. Michelle Maher at Highland reports on what they learned after talking with 30 association membership leaders. The biggest concern: a decline in the acquisition and engagement of young professionals. She describes what associations can do to provide the unique value young people seek.

My local market rarely sells leg of lamb, but they had some this past week, so we enjoyed a roasted leg of lamb rubbed with a rosemary/garlic paste. I followed advice in this recipe and this one too. On the side, potatoes, carrots and red onion roasted underneath the lamb, plus chard from the garden sautéed with red onion, red bell pepper, dried cranberries and a little chicken broth.
We also enjoyed a simple boneless pork loin roasted with garlic, fennel seeds, and white wine. On the side, a sauté of broccoli stems with carrots, onion, red bell, garlic, parsley, thyme and oregano.
Lots of good fish lately: sheepshead baked with lemon zest butter, chives, thyme and parmesan; speckled sea trout with spiced breadcrumb topping; flounder au gratin; and striped mullet NC style. Besides chard, one of our regular sides these days is asparagus sautéed with red onion or shallot, garlic, lemon juice and white wine.
