Conference Circuit: Sharing the SHARE Conference

Time for the first major conference focused on the sharing economy has nearly arrived. Plus: A duo of intriguing healthcare events.

It’s time for the first major conference focused on the sharing economy. Plus: a pair of intriguing healthcare events.

The sharing economy is growing up, with companies such as Airbnb and Lyft being joined by various startups and other initiatives. And like any industry, once it gets large enough, it needs a conference.

Hence SHARE: Catalyzing the Sharing Economy, a conference set for May 13-14 at the Marine’s Memorial Theater in San Francisco. Pledging to “bring together change makers from multiple sectors and perspectives to meet at the crossroads of the old and new economy,” SHARE’s program includes a slew of panels, presentations, and addresses on the emerging paradigm.

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky and Sidecar CEO Sunil Paul, along with a number of other industry experts and academics from Boston College and the University of California-Berkeley, will be among the speakers.

“SHARE will be the first conference in the United States to explore the power and promise of the sharing economy,” Natalie Foster, executive director of the industry group Peers, said in a statement.

Tickets for the SHARE conference, which is being presented by Peers and Social Capital Markets, a group focused on promoting business and social innovations, are still available via its website.

The Week Ahead

May 13-14: The International Association of Exhibitions and Events’ Women’s Leadership Forum may be sold out, but there’s still a chance to get on the waiting list. The Washington, DC, forum will bring sharp focus to issues that women face in the event space.

May 13-15: With the Affordable Care Act, medical record digitization, and the latest medical discoveries, it’s a pivotal time for the healthcare industry. The National Healthcare Innovation Summit in Boston will bring together all manner of stakeholders, including insurance CEOs, patient advocates, and reps from the federal government.

May 16: ASAE’s Large Association Brown Bag, held every third Friday of the month, is a chance for senior leaders of big organizations (30 staff and larger)  to learn from each other’s challenges and successes. This month’s meeting at the American Society of Civil Engineers in Washington, DC, will focus on working with multiple office locations.

coming soon

June 4-5: In case this month’s National Healthcare Innovation Summit wasn’t enough, there’s also the 2014 Health Privacy Summit, scheduled to be held at the Georgetown Law Center in Washington, just a few weeks later.
