ASAE Hosts Congressional Town Hall, Association Advocacy on COVID-19

In response to COVID-19, Congress passed the CARES Act, a $2.2 trillion bill that provides financial relief for individuals, small businesses, corporations, hospitals, state and local governments, and nonprofit organizations. While associations are included in some of the act’s programs, trade and professional associations experiencing severe revenue losses during the current pandemic were excluded from the Paycheck Protection Program.

This video town hall, hosted by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), brought together association professionals and two of the top association advocates in Congress—Rep. Ami Bera (CA-7) and Rep. Stephanie Murphy (FL-7)—to discuss the critical need for associations to be included in an expanded Paycheck Protection Program. Association professionals shared stories about their associations’ economic strife as a result of this pandemic and described how their organizations are making an impact in the effort to fight COVID-19.
