The weekly list of free educational events and resources for the association community…
Our annual family beach vacation is next week—the same time as the ASAE Annual Meeting & Expo (#ASAE19). I figured I’d be so excited about a week at the beach that I wouldn’t even miss Annual. But, I’ve got to admit, reading all the tweets and putting together this post, I’m feeling a bit wistful. I’m realizing how much I’ll miss seeing my friends. But then I remember: I’m spending a week at the beach! But, my friends… But, the beach…
Because I can’t keep my inner librarian in check, here’s your #ASAE19 reading list:
- But first, for your listening pleasure… the Greater Columbus Convention Center put together an #ASAE19 inspired playlist on Spotify.
- Jay Daughtry shares his list of 19 moments to celebrate at #ASAE19 in Columbus.
- Take a look at MemberClick’s Small Staff Guide to #ASAE19 and Ultimate Guide to Networking at #ASAE19.
- An oldie but goodie… an introvert’s guide to ASAE Annual from Maggie McGary—this can be a tough event for introverts, even us social ones.
- And more from The Columbus Dispatch, Agency Q, and VP Demand Creation Services.
If it’s your first time going to Annual, plan to mingle and network with other newbies, get questions answered, or just take a break at The Hive, hosted by ASAE Corporate Partner, DelCor.
Shopping for an LMS? You definitely want to check out the 2019 edition of the Association LMS Buyers Companion from the good folks at Talented Learning. It’s a compilation of their most recent association-related webinars, podcasts, awards, blog posts and more.
WBT Systems (of TopClass LMS fame) explains how learning subscriptions help good intentions come to life. Their post describes the benefits of learning subscriptions for members, employers and associations, and shares ideas for tiers, pricing, and retention tactics.
The most important element in marketing and communications is segmentation, says MemberSuite. After reading their post on how to get started with marketing segmentation, I’d have to agree.
The next step after segmentation is personalization. Dom Nicastro at CMS Wire writes about a new role at an increasing number of companies: Director of Personalization. I’m wondering if the growing personalization trend will lead to members expecting their association to personalize content too.
Good eats:
- Give mackerel a chance. It’s so flavorful. No? Too much flavor? Oh well, you could sub another fish in this pan-seared mackerel with sweet peppers and thyme recipe from the New York Times.
- After making one of my regular chicken dishes the other night—maple and chipotle barbecue chicken thighs—and a new recipe—potato, green bean and tomato salad with parsley vinaigrette, I know what I’m going to make for our house of 14 on my dinner night at the beach. You heard it here first.
- If you want to make Eastern North Carolina pulled pork but don’t have a wood-fired barbecue pit and eight hours to kill, then pull out the Instant Pot and try this recipe. The instructions aren’t that great so I followed the instructions (but not the ingredients) in this recipe because it tells you how to avoid the dreaded BURN warning. Of course, you don’t get the smoky flavor or crackly pieces of skin like real eastern NC barbecue. Next time, I’ll sub chipotle powder for the cayenne to get a little smoke. Another thing, I used boneless country-style pork ribs (which aren’t really ribs but are from the shoulder area) instead of pork shoulder because I had a pack of them in the freezer.
Here are the educational events scheduled for next week—plus social events going on at ASAE Annual in Columbus. If you have any free webinars or events coming up, please send me the link. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not product-centric.
