Superstition Mountains Wilderness, AZ - Free professional development resources and events for CAEs, association staff and others in the association community

Since reading is the first step in the professional development journey, wouldn’t your association want to encourage members (and others in your audience) to develop a reading habit? WBT Systems looks at the state of reading in the U.S. and suggests ways you can help members overcome the typical obstacles to reading.

Millennials are the largest generation in the workplace but not in most associations’ membership. MemberSuite explains how you can improve your value proposition and membership experience for young professionals.

An anonymous board member—who’s a nonprofit governance consultant by day—shares a story with BoardSource about a “duty of care” failure that anyone who works with a board should read.

Associations need lots of data to better understand members, gain insights and make decisions. But how do you prevent all that data from causing analysis paralysis? Tobin Conley, CAE, at DelCor Technology Solutions explains how data governance can tame the data deluge and improve decision-making.

Here’s a prediction from Stuart Meyer at Association Success: “Half or more of the association workforces over the next decade or two will be comprised of highly specialized freelance talent wanting a more flexible life, and associations wanting a more cost-effective and flexible workforce.” What do you think? Sound plausible? I think so.

Some quick hits before we get to next week’s free webinars:

  • A willingness to shift your perspective can help your organization come up with innovative solutions. (Scott Monty)
  • Good news: Trade associations are making strides on gender diversity, with women holding 41% of CEO or executive director roles. (Alex Gangitano, The Hill)
  • It’s blueberry season here. I made these delicious blueberry crumb bars last weekend. (Smitten Kitchen)
  • We’ve also been enjoying fresh peas and snap peas from the farmers market, but even frozen peas will work in this gnocchi with peas, spinach and lemon—add green onions too to celebrate late spring in all its green glory. Or, substitute asparagus for the peas, sadly our asparagus season is over. (Seasons & Suppers)

Here are the educational events scheduled for next week. If you have any free webinars or events coming up, please send me the link. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not product-centric.
