Remote work is business as usual for many of us. Most, if not all, of my clients have staff working from home in locations far from headquarters. I bet most association professionals seek jobs where they have the option to work remotely when necessary. WBT Systems explains how associations can help both members and employers adapt to remote working.
Augmented analytics is a megatrend set to disrupt the business world, says Natan Pollack at ReadWrite. What I’m wondering is whether some of the newish data analytics products built for associations do this kind of thing? Anyone know?
The intuitive problem-solving approach that works for individuals does not work for groups—that’s why many meetings end up being unproductive failures. Al Pittampalli at Harvard Business Review explains how to conduct methodical meetings that produce better results.

Rod Stewart has always been one of my favorite rockers, especially back when he was with the Faces, but, along with everyone else, I had no idea he was a huge model railway hobbyist. He said, “I find beauty in what everyone else sees as ugly – rugged skyscrapers, beaten-up warehouses, things that are very run down.” Check out the photos of his city on the BBC site.
Good eats:
- My house was the scene of a pasta extravaganza last weekend. Jim was away hunting so I indulged in two of my favorites. First up, a Thai-style pasta with peanut butter sauce loaded with veggies (whatever is left over in the frig), ginger, garlic, warm spices and a ton of cilantro. I couldn’t help but eat two bowls.
- The following night I took the opportunity to make a pasta I know he’d hate since he’s not a fan of blue cheese (what a fool!): gorgonzola pasta with spinach, bacon, mushrooms and red onion. Lordy do I love this. If you’re a blue cheese lover, do not deny yourself. Another two-bowl night.
- Earlier in the week, I made sweet potatoes with tahini butter from Bon Appetit. We eat a lot of sweet potatoes so I’m always looking for new ideas. This recipe is promising but I didn’t care for steamed sweet potatoes—the skin was too soggy, especially after the leftovers spent a day in the frig.
Instead of steaming, if time is tight, poke the potatoes all over with a fork and nuke them for 5 to 8 minutes, depending on the size, then finish them off at high heat in the oven or toaster oven. Or just roast them if you have the time. I liked the tahini butter—interesting, in a good way, flavors.
