It's hard for me to write about anything this week except the presentations that I'm going to give at one of my association's major conferences next week. Hard, because creating and rehearsing them has occupied an enormous portion of my mental life this week. Preparation for two of these presentations has been fairly routine. They are the presentations that I will give at the start of each of the conference's two major days.

We tend to overcorrect. When we see a problem, we not only correct it but overcorrect it. Instead of modifying our food choices slightly, we set rigid restrictions when we diet. The Winnipeg Trails Association is wheeling its way through the city’s many bike trails using a specialized device that will put Winnipeg’s car-free pathways on Google Maps’ Street View in the coming months. Technically, Winnipeg’s bike trails aren’t “streets,” but they’re getting the Google Street View treatment anyway—with an association’s help.

During his Game Changer session at ASAE’s Annual Meeting, performance coach Daniel Lerner told attendees to bring success and happiness together by choosing harmony over obsession. They say it’s possible to have too much of a good thing—too much sugar, too much free time, too much information. Passion can be like that. While passion drives people to succeed, it also can lead to spectacular personal failures and generally unhappy lives.

Recent research notes that while sabbaticals are uncommon in the corporate world, they do have their benefits—both for the employee and employer.
