ASAE 2010

In less than a week I will be attending the American Society of Association Executives Annual Meeting and Exposition in Los Angeles. I can’t wait. As Elizabeth Weaver Engel said in her blog, http://www.thx4playing.blogspot.com, it is the “associations geek fest (that’s people who geek about associations0”.
I didn’t attend last years ASAE Annual meeting in Toronto, and I missed it greatly.
For me, it is a chance to fully immerse myself in my profession. To swim in the knowledge of my fellow association executives.
Some years there is a speaker that excites me, like James Brady, Jim Collins, Malcolm Gladwell, and Marcus Buckingham. But this year, for me, it is all about connecting with my fellow association executives. (That is not to say there aren’t great sessions and speakers, there are).

So here is an abbreviated list of what I look forward to when I am at ASAE this year;

1.Social Media for small staff association. Member Clicks will be hosting a discussion on social media for small staff associations. Anything Maddie Grant of SocialFish and Kiki Delcor are involved in will be great. They are two of the folks I pay close attention to in the association world.

2.Catching up with the 2002 ASAE Future Leaders class. I was lucky enough to attend the program at Pinehurst North Carolina, and found it to be a great learning experience. Some of my fellow grads have moved up, like Mark Dorsey, with the Professional Ski and Snowboarding Instructors Association, who was named an ASAE Fellow this year (way to go Mark!).

3.Catching up with my friends in the association world. Friends like Bob McLean, President of REM AMC, who has always been willing to share advise with me as I move down this path.

4.Baseball! Friday night at Dodgers Stadium, and Monday night at the Angels baseball game. (2 more stadiums off the baseball bucket list).

5.Walking the show floor, looking for new ideas that I can use.

6.Time with my fellow Oklahoma Association and Meetings professionals. We are a small state, and it is always good to spend time with this group of dear friends.

So what are you looking forward to?
