Where did the day go? How many times have you asked yourself that? I just did when I looked at the time, yikes. Usually that means I’ve been in that wonderful flow state, that’s a good thing. But it also usually means I got a late start on the day, not so good. The only problem with flow is when I forget to set a timer to get up every 30 or 40 minutes to stretch my legs and get some fresh air. Feeling creaky.
Before I get to the list of webinars, how about some good reads?
I’ve always been interested in how people develop habits, and how associations can encourage members to build “association habits” – participating in an online community, checking an app, reading a blog, or whatever action ties the member more tightly to the association.
Habits have been a hot topic on the best-seller list, first with Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business (a good read), then Gretchen Rubin’s Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Life (still in the bookcase), and now Nir Eyal’s Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products.
Eyal recently wrote an article about two companies that used content and community to hook customers and turn them into loyal, repeat-visitor fans. Associations have what it takes to do the same.
If you’re not completely sure what LinkedIn is up to lately, you need to read this article about LinkedIn Learning. Remember, Microsoft owns LinkedIn now so you can imagine the money being poured into this new professional development platform. All I’m saying is, associations beware. And don’t let them steal your business!
Check out the recent series of posts about cybersecurity on DelCor’s blog covering two-factor authentication, ransomware, web server hacking and third-party network access. This is need-to-know information for everyone, especially those of you in leadership positions. Don’t be complacent about security. Don’t assume it’s being handled. Educate yourself. It’s not a question of if it will happen to you, but when.
By the way, more people now access the web via mobile than desktop, but you knew that already, didn’t you.
Now on to the list of this week’s free webinars and learning events, it’s a long one. But first: if your company has a webinar scheduled in the next few weeks, please send me the link. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not too product-centric.
